Jazz Convention: Jordan Corda "Awakenings" by Fabio Ciminiera

Jordan Corda relives the most important episodes of his life in a concept album that begins with the vibraphonist's Sardinian origins, recounts his arrival on the "continent," reflects on urban settings, and finally focuses on the awareness of being a musician. The narrative thread unfolds through twelve tracks permeated by modern jazz, tastefully enriched with ancestral elements, references to classical and contemporary influences, and carefully calibrated samples to define the songs' diverse settings. This journey has been undertaken while always keeping in mind the history of jazz and, in particular, the history of the vibraphone in jazz. Interlocking timbres, energy, and dedication create a cohesive work, managed as a single, propulsive, and dynamic flow of sound. The solid trust between the quintet members—who have long collaborated on various projects—lends agility and the ability to respond effectively to the diverse solutions proposed by Corda in his compositions. A substantial work, therefore, generous in the quantity of ideas offered and deeply thought out, both in terms of the musical structure and the consequent expressive needs linked to the performance and in terms of the psychological dimension, the inner exploration and the need to know and recognize oneself, typical of a largely autobiographical operation.
