A.MA Records presents Awakenings, an album by vibraphonist Jordan Corda that, as is often the case with the Apulian label's artists, looks to the international contemporary jazz scene. The lineup features jazz musicians accustomed to intercepting the most cutting-edge currents, becoming new interpreters of them, such as saxophonist Paolo Recchia, pianist Luca Mannutza, double bassist Daniele Sorrentino, and drummer and producer Sasha Mashin. The guest appearance of the group Canto a Tenore Santu Larettu from Silanus offers a glimpse into the leader's Sardinia, asymmetrically intertwined with the insular reality from which Corda hails and the metropolitan one to which he has landed ("The Continent" is, in fact, one of the standout tracks of the twelve on the tracklist). Another noteworthy track is the title track, a sort of concentrated example of how the group weaves its connective networks. Each “awakening” opens up different horizons (“Lunar Connections”), ancient narratives (“The Old Story”), glimpses of memory and gaps of forgetfulness (“It Will Forget Us”, “Forget”)… Finally, the awakening opens up the horizon of home, identified by the notes of the traditional tenor song, among the ancestors of the modal system.
